We will unearth the stories of some of the mines, quarries, and holes in

the ground in Brandon over the last 10,000 years or so. Len Schmidt will

share some old photos, some new photos, and some background on the

people who were or might have been involved. We will recap the

10,000-year history of finding and using rocks and minerals including

the search for iron, gold, coal, and marble as well as the more obscure

kaolin, ochre, and quartzite. Lidar images will show how many of these

sites are still visible beneath Brandon area forests.
